Sodium Chlorite Solution (22,4%)
Size: 100ml
Highly recommended for campers, hikers, hunters, 4x4, and outdoor enthusiasts.
Sodium chlorite (NaClO₂) is a highly reactive chemical compound primarily used as a precursor to generate chlorine dioxide (ClO₂) for water purification.
To generate chlorine dioxide for water purification, it is necessary to procure both a 100 mL sodium chlorite solution and a 100 mL hydrochloric acid solution. These reagents must be combined in equal, specified proportions to activate the compounds properly.
Water Treatment:
- Pre-filter: Pass cloudy water through a clean cloth before treating.
- Mix: Combine an equal number of 4 drops of Sodium chlorite (bottle A - base) and Hydrochloric acid (bottle B - activator) into a clean, non-metallic, dry cup.
- Activate: Wait 30 seconds for the mixture to turn a distinct yellow/amber colour.
- Treat: Add the activated mixture to 1 Litre of water.
- Wait: Let the water stand for 30 minutes before drinking.
Best Practices & Safety:
- Cold Water: If your water is near freezing (under 10°C), double the waiting time.
- Dosage: Higher levels of contamination demand greater uniformity in droplet volume.
- Safety: Store bottles away from heat and light, and avoid direct skin contact when handling.
Precaution:
- Skin-exposure: In the event of dermal or ocular exposure, immediately flush the affected area with copious amounts of water for several minutes.
- Storage: During prolonged storage, the product may develop floating particulate matter.
- Ventilated area: Users must handle and mix this substance in a well-ventilated area and ensure that any generated gases or vapours are not inhaled.
